Additional Learning Needs
Each child has individual and unique needs; however, some children require more support than
others at some time during their school life. Our ALNCo (Additional Learning Needs Co-ordinator), Mrs Mees works closely with the class teachers to identify such needs and after consultation with parents, and
the child themselves where appropriate, will decide when a child needs to be placed on the ALN
register. The school takes this responsibility very seriously and strives to meet each child's needs
regardless of their ability.
Children are monitored carefully and receive support either in class or through additional
interventions. An Individual Development Plan (IDP) with specific targets for the child to work
towards, is drawn up by the class teacher and shared with the pupils' parents. Many of these pupils
may require additional help throughout their time in school, while others may need a little extra
support for a short period only to overcome temporary needs. Some pupils may need a little bit of
additional support but are not considered to have an ALN. These children will be provided with a
Universal Learning Provision Plan (ULPP), with the relevant support outlined and provided. At times
support is needed from outside agencies including medical or behavioural support, an Educational
Psychologist, speech and language therapists, physiotherapist, visual or hearing impairment
specialists. The school's ALN Policy can be found below.
